Recall Information

2021 – 2023 Dave Bicycles and Framesets

At Cannondale, we know our riders demand the highest levels of performance, quality, and safety, and we hold ourselves and Cannondale products to that standard.

We have identified a safety issue with the Cannondale Model Year 2021-23 Dave bicycles and framesets. The bicycle headtube/downtube weld can become damaged and separate from the bicycle frame, posing fall and injury hazards. As such, we are conducting a product recall of these bicycles in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Cannondale dealers and riders should inspect the bicycle to determine if they have a Cannondale Model Year 2021-23 Dave bicycle or bicycle frameset. A consumer can identify an impacted bicycle or bicycle frameset by the presence of “Dave” painted on the bicycle frame top-tube. If you have a Cannondale Model Year 2021-23 Dave bicycle or bicycle frameset, please refrain from riding it until a Cannondale dealer can replace it.

Please contact your local authorized Cannondale dealer or Cannondale to arrange for an authorized Cannondale dealer to replace the bicycle frame at no charge.

We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience, and for riding Cannondale. Sincerely, The Cannondale Team

1st Generation Turbo Levo Recall

Specialized has issued a voluntary recall for a small number of battery packs sold as original equipment on and as aftermarket equipment for use with 1st Generation Turbo Levo and Kenevo electric mountain bikes manufactured between 2017 and 2019.

You are listed on our records as having bought or serviced a bike that is potentially affected by this recall. Please review the Specialized Safety Notice website to learn more about this recall and to see whether your battery is affected. Specialized will also be notifying riders through the Turbo Mission Control app.

Please contact your nearest Authorised Specialized Retailer to book an appointment for repair. They will inspect your bike and repair the battery pack at no cost to you. If you are no longer the owner of a first generation Levo/Kenevo please forward this email to the new owner where possible. Thank you for riding Specialized, we hope to get you back on the trails quickly

AFFECTED PRODUCT: If you own any of the below bicycle models or separately purchased (or received under warranty) a 1st Generation Levo or Kenevo battery pack, you may be affected by this recall. Potentially affected battery packs can be identified by part number (B9JE2045F, B9JE2056F, B9JE2065F, B9JE2076F, B9JE2098F) and manufacturing date (Nov 2017 – March 2019), both of which are noted on a label adhered to each battery pack. The battery pack needs to be removed from the bicycle in order to read the label. Please go to www.specialized.com/safety-notices for detailed instructions on how to remove the battery pack and tell whether it is affected.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL: If conductive water (e.g., salt or chlorinated) penetrates the seal around the Control Pad, e.g., through repeated pressure-washing, and reaches a specific very small area of the battery pack’s protection circuit board, it can in very rare cases trigger a short-circuit that would bypass the multiple layers of protection built into the battery pack. In sufficiently charged battery packs, this can potentially lead to a thermal runaway event, posing fire and burn hazards.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE AN AFFECTED BATTERY PACK: Do not charge the battery pack until your Authorized Specialized Retailer has repaired it. If it has a charge level of 50% or more, as a precaution, you should ride your bike (in dry conditions) as soon as possible for the sole purpose of reducing the charge level to less than 50% (if possible, no lower than 20% for retailer diagnostic). Do not expose your battery pack to any water until it is repaired. Even thereafter, do not use a high-pressure water spray to clean your bicycle or battery pack.

WHAT WILL SPECIALIZED DO FOR AFFECTED RIDERS: If your battery pack is affected, your Authorized Specialized Retailer will inspect and repair it at no cost to you, which involves re-gluing the Control Pad to seal it more effectively. For questions, please contact your Authorized Specialized Retailer or Rider Care on 0330 460 9909 or visit https://www.specialized.com/gb/en/contact-us

Cannondale – Front Rack on Treadwell Bicycles

At Cannondale, we know our riders demand the highest levels of performance, quality, and safety, and we hold ourselves and Cannondale products to that standard.

We have received a few reports of issues with the bolts that attach the front rack installed on some Cannondale Treadwell bicycles that caused the rack to become detached from the bicycle and abruptly stop the front wheel, creating a fall and injury hazard.

We have elected to conduct a recall of the rack in order to provide riders with a more robust attachment system, which will be installed at no cost by Cannondale dealers. We are working to finalize this improved attachment system and obtain required government approvals.

In the meantime, Cannondale dealers should stop sale of the racks and all Cannondale dealers and riders should remove the rack from any Treadwell bicycles and save all rack parts for later re-attachment. If you have not already registered your bicycle for warranty and recalls, please do so now by downloading the Cannondale Mobile App and just spinning the front wheel to activate the built in Bluetooth wheel sensor and complete the registration, or register on cannondale.com. Once your bicycle has been registered, we will be able to contact you to complete the recall when we receive final government approvals.

It is easy to remove the rack – instructions are included below, and a step by step video is available on the Cannondale Mobile App and cannondale.com

Once the rack is removed, you can keep riding your Treadwell – because nothing beats a bike ride. We’ll be in touch as soon as possible to get your rack safely re-attached.

We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience, and for riding Cannondale.

2019 / 2020 Sirrus & Sirrus X Stop Ride

Dear Specialized Rider,

At Specialized, our riders come first. When rider safety is compromised, we must take action.

We have concluded that some cranks on certain 2019 and 2020 Sirrus and Sirrus X models may not have been installed correctly. This can potentially affect the safety of your bike.

We are asking you to stop riding your bicycle until we can ensure it is safe. We will also ask our retailers to stop selling potentially affected models.

We are working urgently to finalize the fix to this issue and obtain the required government approvals. We’re all riders ourselves, so getting you back on your bike is an absolute priority for our team. We fully expect this to be a simple and quick fix.

During this chaotic time in the world, the bike has been an outlet for so many of us. We are genuinely sorry to have to ask you to pause. We are committed to making this right as fast as humanly possible.
We will update you next week with next steps.

Thanks for riding Specialized.

Jon Goulet, Director of Quality

How to tell if your Sirrus crank is affected:

The bike family name (i.e., “Sirrus” or “Sirrus X”) can be identified by looking at the top tube of your bike near the handlebars (see Fig. 1). It should be in plain sight when you sit in the saddle.

The model name (i.e., “3.0” or “Sport”) is written on the right-side seat stay towards the seatpost (see Fig. 2). Look at the side of your bike where the gears are (right side when sitting on the bike) and locate the model name on the tube that goes from the rear wheel up towards your saddle.

Figures 3 and 4 are pictures of a two-piece slotted crank, which is the type of crank affected. You can see fixing bolts on each side, which clamp the left side crankarm onto the crank spindle. If you have one of the affected model bikes, and your crank looks like this, stop riding until further notice.

Figures 5 and 6 are pictures of cranks on Sirrus bikes that are NOT affected and are ok to keep riding. If you are still unsure whether your bike is affected, stop riding it and visit your nearest Authorized Specialized Retailer, or contact Specialized Rider Care.
